Update: Hey! Someone has posted my copycat DVD ordeal to Digg! Digg it, y'all!
Whee! What's up? There's a new comic. Get some coffee or favorite bitter beverage of choice and read it. Now, now, now!
Now for story time: Several months ago, a loyal fan sent me a link to
AmazonJP regarding a DVD that looked suspiciously based on my comic. The DVD in question is
聖少女戦士 St.ヴァルキリー, or "Holy Girl Soldier St. Valkyrie." I bought it, but it sat on my shelf for a while (say, five months). I finally watched it the other day, and holy monkeys, if it ain't a bit influenced by my comic, I don't what is.
For starters, the magical girls in
St. Valkyrie are valkyries. The older one is Valkyrie Ai, and the younger one is called "Valkyrie Yuuki."
"Valkyrie Yuuki." Hmmm...
The kanji for both Yuuki are different (my Yuuki,
勇希; their Yuuki, 裕樹), granted, but the pronunciation is the same. And that's what counts.
Next, the uniform for
St. Valkyrie's Yuuki looks a little similar to my Yuuki's. Both have wings on the side of the head, outstretched shoulder coverings, and ridiculous high heels. The skirt on
St. Valkyrie's Yuuki is also short for easy panty-flashes, kinda like mine. Though it's really disturbing on their Yuuki, since she's
TWELVE.
It could all be a coincidence. After all, I've seen other characters in Japanese media named Yuuki, and this isn't the first series in Japan to feature valkyries. Plus, the costumes do incorporate some industry standards. Valkyries with wings on the side of the head is not too novel (see Namco's
Valkyrie,
Valkyrie Profile's Lenneth, etc.), and high heels are an ever favorite magical girl staple. Yes, one could pretend it's all coincidence and leave it at that.
Except for the one glaring similarity:
St. Valkyrie's Valkyrie Yuuki starts the series out as a boy and becomes a girl after transforming into the Valkyrie, even after powering down.
That's not coincidence. That's my freaking comic.
Am I freaking out? Hell no. I expected this to happen eventually. Even as my friends and husband are freaking out themselves after watching this copycat DVD and asking me if I'm freaked out as well, I am not. I have a saying for this situation:
Eventually your shit will be in someone else's shit, and you'll say to yourself, "Holy shit, there's my shit in someone else's shit."Live by these words, my friends. They will make a situation like this seem like pie. Sweet pie.
If you think I'm crazy, check it out for yourself and learn that the madness is real:

More on this later. Now for gaming news...
Which there is none! Ha! Well,
both my
Saturns are broken. My poor Saturns... ;_;
Improvement is the game!

NEW COMIC. READ.So I was looking at the
forums, and I stumbled on
this.
...That's Loki.
THAT'S LOKI.That's Loki with a kid. A kid that is learning about online comics. The article says the cup that Loki is stuck to is the "Can of Inspiration." Inspiration? To kill? I don't know, but I'll say it's awesome. Thanks, John Baird of
Okashina Okashi. You have made my day. Teach those kids to comic well!
Here is where the Loki is from. Thank you to Zensunni for
posting this in the forums. ^_^
OK, I'm going back to working on logos and such. Have fun, y'all!
Bouncing fun on the carpet.
